And picture a building that works
against traditional architecture a roof that glides like a cloud, a canopy
whipped by the wind, entire buildings where art is combined with engineering.
This is literally the present of tensile fabric structures and leading
this revolution in India is a pioneering Tensile Structure Company
that’s reshaping the architecture of an entire nation is Archway Tensile.
Long gone are days where
structures were only made out of steel, concrete and glass. Now the ethos is
lightness, sustainability and heart stopping beauty. Tensile structures,
light weight yet strong as steel, symbolize the age of design to come. They’re
not just buildings they’re huge sculptures made of repetition and solid things,
and underneath them is where life clatters around.
The miracle of a tensile fabric
is it can evolve a wispy bit of cloth into an iconic structure. The design
scope of tensile structure is as big as that of the architect. Every
shape is the result of a complex balance of forces, with the cloth tensioned to
produce a strong, hardwearing and frankly beautiful structure.
Hypars or Hyperbolic
Paraboloids: This is the classic form. It has the appearance of a saddle
with a double curved surface that is not only aesthetic, but makes this
structure an efficient one. It’s good for letting water drain and forming high,
dramatic peaks. You can see them at stadium entrances, lined up like bow-legs;
outside grand petrol pumps or public plazas.
Conical: There is no real
building style, only semblances that remind of big tents or circus tops; they
create a technique out of a central mast to radiate the fabric. This plan is
ideal if you have a need for dramatic space, such as gazebos or amphitheatres,
and can also easily provide an innovative backyard addition.
Barrel Vaults: Long, tunnel
like tubes that offer extensive coverage without using internal anchors. They
are great for walkways, long porches, railways or shopping complex entrances
where a contemporary style is desired.
Wave Forms: Just as the
name implies, these preserves echo the frequency of ocean waves. They are
applied to form a dynamic facade, structurally undulating roof over large spans
and in any place where fluid action is needed, and/or a modern twist.
Bespoke & Free Design:
This is where science intersects with pure magic. Architect and companies such
as Archway Tensile work together to build these one-of-a-kind structures that
quickly becomes landmarks. They can take any shape, constrained only by
imagination and the laws of physics.
The show stopper is no doubt the Tensile
Structure Fabric. This is not just ordinary cloth; this is a performance
engineered membrane. The most common types include:
PVC Polyester: A commonly
used, economical material for canopies, shade structures and other
semi-permanent installations. It is flame-retardant and comes in many colors.
PTFE (Teflon) Glass: The
best solution for long time structures. PTFE coated fiberglass is extremely
durable, self-cleaning (rain removes dirt), very fire-resistant and allows for
an even, pleasing transmission of light. It’s the stuff of iconic museums and
airports, stadiums and bridges.
ETFE Film: It is not a
fabric but a clear fluoroplastic film that is used in some air-inflated
cushions. It provides amazing clarity, is extremely light weight and has
excellent thermal resistive properties.
This skin is the membrane of the
system. Constructed using a very precise pattern, that is designed with
specialized computer software and unfolded to the 3D shape from a 2D shape it
creates an extraordinary form when pulled into place and fastened.
Archway Tensile is among the best
manufacturing of tensile structure in all over India, because it’s part of
world technology and Indian art. The process is one of precision and skill:
Design & Engineering:
It starts with an idea. From there, architects and engineers construct a
digital 3D model using sophisticated software such as AutoCAD and specialized
tensile modelling programs. This step requires sophisticated
structural-analysis software to determine loads, stresses and deformations
caused by wind, snow and seismic forces a necessary move when dealing with
India’s varied climate.
Generating Patterns: The
final 3D model is "unfolded" into 2D patterns by the computer
software. It's a really complicated job (if not done carefully, it can produce
a lot wastage and the fabric would not get actual shape when stretch).
Pattern cutting: Pattern
information is then transmitted to computer-managed cutting machines for
precise cutting of the fabric pieces. That way it's dead balls accurate which
is so important for the final fit.
Welding & Fabrication:
The cut panels are seam welded together on high-frequency welding machines to
form the finished membrane assembly. At the same time, in-house production of
the load supporting components including masts, steel cables, connectors and
base plates with a control system of quality is carried out.
Surface Treatment &
Finishing: The entire steel portion on each unit is hot-dipped galvanized
or painted to resist corrosion an essential feature in the Indian climate for
prolonging life of structures.
Installation: The last but
not the least is installation. An Archway professional brings in all material.
The base is laid; the structure goes up and eventually the taut fabric membrane
is stretched out and fastened down job done on your flat pack to international
architectural statement.
Tensile structures’
flexibility finds them providing shelter for India in ways more than one can
imagine.
Intermodal Hubs:
Development of landmark, weather protected spaces at the airport, railway
stations and bus stations.
Arena Covers: Unmanned
retractable roofs the size of stadiums down to smaller tennis and swimming
facilities.
Commercial and Retail:
Stunning entranceways to commercial malls, showrooms or brand retail shops.
Downtown car park tensile structures are common sight in cities across India.
Leisure & Hospitality:
Hotels complement tensile structures to create spectacular lobbies,
poolside umbrellas and al fresco dining, providing guests with the open-air
ambiance.
Public and institutional area:
they protect schools and give shade to amphitheatres, represent landmarks on
public parks or gardens.
Bright future for Tensile structure
Industry in India. With the accelerated urbanization taking place throughout
India, we are seeing an increasing need for infrastructure that is both
functional and sustainable as well as aesthetically advanced. Tensile
architecture, with its minimal material use, ability to make use of natural
light and quick construction timescales, is ideally placed to satisfy this
need.
The sector will witness growth in
the uptake of smart materials, PV integrated canopies for generating energy and
more adventurous structural designs. A Specialized Tensile Structure Company
will become not just a fabricator, but an integral innovation partner for
architects and developers.
One question that I am asked is
the "cost of Tensile Structure". The Tensile Structure
Price is not one number, but a figure based on the complexity of design,
fabric type (PVC vs. PTFE), Project Size, site conditions and engineering
costs. The upfront investment might be higher than regular roofing, but the
benefits are unparalleled reduced foundation work, classic good looks, no
maintenance and a roof for a lifetime.
The knowledge of Tensile
Structure Cost in India needs a consultative treatment. Archway Tensile has
the perfect level of ambition and budget for each project, marinating maximum
value to clients.
Archway Tensile is not just a producer, but an ‘Experience Generator’. They're silent partners to the visionary Tensile Structure Architect, The engineers of awe, and the Weavers in India's modern Skyline. They are, one graceful curve at a time, changing the future of Indian architecture.” As they camped under every Tensile Structure Canopy that they constructed and tensioned beneath each soaring roof, it was clear: They aren’t just providing shade.
